A series of keyboard smash visualizations translated from more than 70 collected keyboard smashes.
process:
conducted a survey —> collected 70+ keyboard smashes + emotions [layer 1] —> coded a website archive —> generated heatmap visualizations from responses [layer 2] —> performed [layer 3] a smash on an aluminum sheet [layer 4] above a keyboard with a hammer —> hammer type output [layer 5] —> hammer heatmap output [layer 5]
Guided by Allison Park’s study on the linguistic behavior of key smashes and thank you to Patrick Weid for the heatmap.js library.
Inspired by the artwork, One and Three Chairs by Joseph Kosuth, my scultpure reimagines what a keysmash is and its linguistic restrictions within digital cultures.
